Needing a replacement or reprofile

Sat Jun 24, 2017 2:17 pm

Hey all.

Today I accidentally broke the tip off my daily carry knife, a Benchmade brand from their HK line. It`s the model 17400 from the Pardue series. It carries extreme sentimental value to me as a gift from my father and is an out-of-production product. Does anyone know a place capable of reprofiling the blade, or possibly even replacing it?

I would start with Benchmade. They are fantastic to work with.

I sent an email today. No word back yet. Are you sure they`d be willing to work on it? Warranty is bound to be expired; it was a gift and is out of production.

I have never broken a blade, but they have resharpened mine several times, (just the straight edge, no serration work).
They have rebuilt the pivot bushings and replaced missing scale screws several times, no charge and no hassles. My knife is what most people would refer to as abused.

I don't know if they would re-profile, but they may have a replacement blade for it.

There was or is a knife guy on this site. I don't recall his screen name.

I`m fine with a replacement blade, it`s just that the knife itself is out of production, so I dunno if they`d even have any extras on hand.

How much of the tip broke off?

Only about a millimeter, maybe an added half.

I'd think they'd just put another blade on for free, or have one of their techs reshape it on a grinder gratis.
Positive customer service reputation in this day and age is priceless.
Swapping out a blade probably costs them $10-15 including return postage.
Doubt they would risk having a pissed off multi gun forum blogger over $15.

Solid point. Will report back when they respond of course.

I held a short-ish email conversation with customer service over the course of a few days. The good news is that they`ll honor the warranty and can reprofile it so long as the snap is less than 1/8 of an inch. By my measurement I barely qualify. Frankly I`d prefer a replacement blade nonetheless but I also live in the real world, that option is off the table. The lady sent me a form to fill out.

Thanks! I`ve heard of that place in the past, but the name isn`t coming to me either.
