I'm trying to diagnose a problem with my old Mercedes diesel that has decided to no longer start. I think it's one or more of the glow plugs, or possibly the glow plug relay. The diagnosis steps I've found online use an ammeter and I don't have one. I might be able to get by with my multimeter, but having an ammeter would be handy.

My dad might have one. I'll search my mom's garage this weekend and see if he had one or not.

O'Riely Autoparts in Monroe "loans" out their diagnosis reader. They just charge you for it and count it as a return when you bring it back. I would let you use mine if it exsisted.

Quote: Harbor Freight has 'really nice' nothing. 'Cheap and disposable' maybe, really nice? Not so much My Fluke lasted me 14 years. When I went to price another one there was no way. The one at HFT had a very nice design and does everything and more that my Fluke did for a tenth of the price.

Is it accurate? Have you taken it to get calibrated?

I've still got my Fluke multimeter, but I keep a HF one on my boat. I figure for $10 I can replace it every few years and my Fluke doesn't get torn up. If I'm doing an electrical project on the boat, I'll bring my whole electrical kit including the Fluke with me, but it all goes back home with me. I've destroyed more than one DMM with salt water. For $12-$14 for an ammeter, I'm good with it since I'm not looking for precision, just getting a reading.

So I got the parts in today that I needed to repair my old Mercedes diesel. Got the glow plugs installed with the new heavy gauge wires, and it started on the very first try. So pleased!
