If the government shuts down, then they aren't doing their job. They shouldn't be paid for not doing their job. Shutdowns would be very brief then.

Might get more done if they only wrote bills that covered a single topic and quit tacking on all the crap they do to essential legislation. Either that or give the President "Line Item Veto" powers just like many State Governors have. That way they can just "Red Pencil" the bullshit that got added on as the original bill was amended a dozen or more times. The current system is kind of like forcing a restaurant customer to eat the dog-shit the chef put on his plate if he wants to eat the prime rib he actually ordered.
