Here we go again, a government shut down. Only "Essential Services and personnel" will continue to work.
If we have thousands and thousands of non-essential people on the government payroll the question is WHY? Maybe an extended government shutdown would be a good thing in that it would show how much of our government can actually be closed down as Non Essential.
It is rather irritating that Congressional members who are often the least productive still get their paychecks.
Good news is that NICS will remain open for business so gun purchases will continue.
If the shutdown continues for any length of time it really reveal how many non essential people we are paying for in our Federal Government. Something tells me that Trump won't be giving in anytime soon so this should be interesting.

"Non-essential" begs the question about why the government is performing that particular function in the first place.

Non essential personnel includes all maintiance activities which will be a big problem if it goes on to long not to mention contract delays which will cost the gov tons of cash when they open up again

During a shutdown maintenance personnel are collecting overtime setting up barriers around 'closed' national monuments and parks. Bet it costs 20X as much to keep a park or monument closed than open.

Bet it costs 20X as much to keep a park or monument closed than open. That train wreck was choreographed by Barry to be a painful as possible. I don't think all that time and money will be wasted like that this go around (here is hoping anyway). I am certainly all for keeping it shut down as long as required to get this DACA sign off back to an immigration bill where it belongs. They got 6 years on CHIP already so they can talk to the hand on DACA. Hopefully while they are shut down they can work on a real budget instead of operating on this endless CR nonsense.

Usually libs are afraid of these slimdowns because of the reasons mentioned above, that people will learn how little government is needed.

If we have thousands and thousands of non-essential people on the government payroll the question is WHY? Heard on the radio yesterday that the 'Non Essential' personnel makes up 17% of the total work force.

Non essential shutdown has our local USDA office closed down and there are going to be at least a loss of two of ag disease resistance breeding series that get lost if it goes too long.
Yeah, looking to prevent widespread crop damage is porkbelly spending.
Having to govern is hard, as some of our congress critters are starting to learn. You can't just yell at the wall, when YOU are the ones in control.
