It would be nice if they would put out an actual memo, explaining why they close the stores that they do. I would love to see a major corporation explaining high taxes, ever increasing minimum wage, increased distribution costs due to fuel tax increases, Etc force their decision to close. Hundreds if not thousands of unemployed workers, and a significant loss of tax revenue. All impacting King County.

The article the Q13 story references said that 10 of the locations will be turned into online distribution centers. That's probably reasons 1, 2, and 3 right there.

About the only thing I use Sam's Club for is prescriptions (was the only pharmacy to fill my insulin by the pen, not the box), frozen veggies, beer battered cod, and bottled water.

I liked that Sam's was never as crowded as Costco, but I guess I'll have to transfer the Rx's to Costco. Good thing we're getting one in Bonney Lake...

Plus, I'll save $45/year now. (or rather have $45 more to spend on ammo...)

You're homestead.

I have not been in a Sam's Club in..........not joking at least 25 years. Just going by 9 years in one house, 5 years, 12 years......26 years, at least.

Apparently the employees that are laid off will be offered jobs at the distribution facilities.
Isn't there a Sam's in Fife?

No Sam's in Fife. They have closed ALL their Washington locations.
Sad, I've been buying skinless, boneless chicken breasts for $1.98 per pound (or less) but at Costco it's over a buck a pound more.
I've also been buying 8% fat hamburger for around $3.19 a pound but at Costco the 15% costs more.
You could buy smaller amounts of mass qty items than you could get at Costco...
Gas at Sams you could always drive right up to the pump unlike the 10 minute wait at Costco and it never cost more than Costco.
They actually paid better rewards than Costco... Their card gave 5% back on gas purchased anywhere except any other Club store, Costco only gives 4%...
Sad, it is a loss...

When Costco started accepting EBT, DSS/DSHS starting paying for membership.

The rate of 'shrink' aka theft outpaced the add'l revenue from accepting EBT. I laughed. what did they expect? lol

I'm now wondering what's going to happen to the Sam's Club gas station in between Walmart & Sam's Club at the Supermall in Auburn???

There was a story about a Walmart in Chicago closing, but that "the gas station & Walmart next door would remain open..."

Doesn't mean they will do that with this one, but sounds like the option is available, AND, it's a completely separate parcel. So they could turn the Sam's into a Distribution Center, or sell off the property, with no problem....

You could call....they probably already know....

I'll do a drive by.
Since Sam's is now closed then the gas station shouldn't need to see the club card??

The article I read mentioned something about using a Walmart Credit Card at the gas station, but they didn't mention that was the only option, so, not sure.

They'll lose a lot of volume if it requires a CC. A Sam's club card you buy....a Credit Card you have to apply & qualify for....big difference....

This is a total bummer for me and the wife since we now live in Fairwood and grabbing cheap gas and going up the hill was so easy. Plus getting my $5 rotisserie chicken was easy. Now I'll have to go out of my way.

This doesn't compute. I thought they checked my receipt to avoid shrinkage?

People run out of fire doors (emergency exits), hide stuff in clothes/bags, steal store displays (not kidding).. Had a couple iPads and Samsung tablets stolen when I was in Federal Way..

I worked in Tacoma, Covington, and Federal Way locations.... Every day in Tacoma someone was getting caught stealing... Federal Way, probably 3x a day.... Covington not so much... Fraud was a big issue for the cellphone aspect of it, due to Costco not requiring deposits.. Someone would sign up with fake SSN/DL, buy 5 phones on a new account, go to another Costco, do the same thing... I caught one guy who had 'bought' something like 40 phones from different locations... of course it was all fraud... (You finance the phones, so they'd finance them under someone else's name/SSN, then sell the new phones on CL or OfferUp for 50-80% of retail... Costco didn't have deposits, where retail stores did, so the profit was much higher in dealing with costco , since they had no up front costs other than tax.

But LP is pretty good though.... they're regular shoppers, at least they look like it.. They stick out like a sore thumb to me, but to the average joe, they're gonna get nailed.. They use cellphones to communicate, so that dude that's sending a text message, is telling where to put cameras, and who to watch... and likewise, that text message he just got is telling him who just pocketed something.. Eyes in the sky...

Have you ever seen any of those receipt checkers do anything but pretend to scan down the receipt, and glance at the cart? They aren't checking squat. It's a TSA move.

Walmart is doing it now, as well.
