I've thought about getting a US flag for my boom truck for a while. Usually too late to get one in time for a special event or day. This might be the case too but figured if I order it tomorrow it can be here Monday. The procession for Deputy McCartney will be going fairly close to the job I'm working on. If I can get one in time I'd like to drive over and fly it. ETA-I see now that the procession was yesterday. The news tribune made it sound like it would be next Tuesday. So a few questions: With the boom straight up the tip is about 73' in the air. I've found a few guides online for sizing a flag based on the height of the pole and it looks like I could go with either a 12x18 or a 15x25. I kind of think bigger is better but I don't want to be too ridiculous. Flags this size are several hundreds of dollars and I'm ok with that. Thoughts? I'm finding lots of places online to order from but only one locally in Tacoma and it looks like they don't have flags that big. If anyone knows of a flag shop or another source around here that would be great. Aside from that it's hard to tell what the quality of any of them are. I think nylon will be best, too heavy and it won't fly. I won't be flying it for long so I'm not too worried about durability but I don't want to buy junk.

Maybe check with some local Fire Departments.
Many of them do similar things with ladder trucks, and may have advice on size, tying, etc.
They might even help you procure one once they know what it's for.
Just a thought....

I went back and edited my post.
The procession was yesterday. The TNT made it sound like it would be next Tuesday. Not sure if there will be another opportunity when they have a funeral.
I should still buy a flag. I was thinking about it on 9-11 last year and then promptly forgot about it afterwards.

Just a thought.... Good call, hadn't thought of that. I've got some buddies that are firefighters.

I got mine at Flags-a-flyin. I would be surprised if they didn’t have any size you need. They were a sponsor on KVI and support our local military. Edit: they have every size you are asking for. http://www.flagsaflying.com/product-typ ... ?limit=all

I thought about them, but when I looked, 8x12 was the largest.
They offer custom ordering, but that looked like for company logos & such; I could be wrong.

Good call, a firefighter friend said that's where the Tacoma fire dept. gets theirs. I didn't see a 15x25 on there before, but I do now.

Somehow it just seems wrong to be charging sales tax on American flags.

I don't know why I didn't think of them sooner but the American Legion sells flags to support their causes. This is what I ended up ordering: http://www.americanlegionflags.com/15X25-Nylon-American-Flag/productinfo/N1525/

Not to threadjack, but....
I'm interested in flying a flag at my new house. Interested in knowing what size of flag I should buy. Planning to fly it from the porch at an angle.
