It looks like a great truck and you know the history. Exactly my thoughts. If you want the truck and can afford it, then have a damn good haggle session, pay whatever you need to pay, and enjoy the truck. Then tell him you need the rest of the money back soon, and please move a bit farther north.

Not so much with Ford CARS! I work next to the Ford store. They keep tow companies in business. Thread Title said opinion :) Ford can fix their vehicles...most other companies can't fix their own stuff and the owners have learned so they get towed to independents.

Honestly..... I just see tow trucks with fords on the back, all day every day. I don't pay attention to years and all that because.....it's irrelevant to me.

That truck, with that transmission, at that mileage, is a crackiin deal. The reason you see Ford trucks being towed? They're usually all automatics, and 99% of owners never service them. You can't tow a 30 foot 5th wheel on the freeway while the transmission is in overdrive.

2000 7.3. powdered metal rods, dual mass flywheel, shouldn't have the split shot injectors (a plus to not have them) 10.25 Sterling rear end with small pinion brg and fiber friction discs if limited slip. Fiber disc an small pinion brg is something to watch, often.. The rods, dual mass flywheel and diff stuff aren't deal breakers, but something I do consider for $'s down the road. Extreme cold weather temps are REALLY hard on the oil cooler orings. Pretty sure they changed the under cover valve cover gaskets in 99' to single plug. Double plugs will drive you nuts and hard starting. Drop 130 into the pigtails to change to single plug and another $125 for both the gaskets, and I think the same price for injector harnesses.
Those miles, condition and ability to yell at the old man when a unit bearing(frt hub) goes south and getting a refund for repairs for selling it to you is a big bonus.
7.3, while in demand, are in demand solely due to the cost and those soured on 6.0. you don't see many 20 year olds buying a newer diesel, but you can sell overvalued 7.3 rigs all day long and demand more than a few k over book.
I wouldn't say that truck is high or low in price based on your description of condition. But, your dad could sell it to someone that had to have a 7.3 for $18-19k

I don't see Aluminum running boards, and 3.73 was that standard ratio. A 4.10 or 4.30 would have been an option. Looks like a good deal if you go for it.

14k is a pretty good deal. I have seen those fetch 18k in that shape. I assume its 2 wheel drive. I have seen many of those trucks with way more miles and worse condition sell for 10 to 12. Let the old man have his money. He did change your diapers after all.
