Wow, note the courage and awareness of the mother. Or the woman who came to get the baby, knowing they were in harm’s way. It just goes to show you that you must be ready at all times. Hopefully the child didn’t suffer any permanent hearing loss.

The video is pretty hard to interpret well. One of the perps dressed in black walks toward the camera on the far left. The only other individual other than the mother is a male dressed in a white shirt. Can't tell if the police officer is shooting him or shooting right past him within inches of his back. Intense.

Looks to me one perp (in black) walks back to the Pharm counter with gun in hand, the other watches the door. Shots ring out, Pharmacist is in white who ducks when ODO opens up. ODO fires or points toward the door exit too, where I presume 2nd perp is.

Unless that cop was actually under fire himself, he deserves to be hung by his balls, stripped of his badge, and prosecuted to the full extent of the law for reckless endangerment.

Interrupted armed robbery with immediate threat to life and limb. Thugs in Brazil don't carry guns for fun.

While sitting here at my desk I am confident that I would have gently put the baby on the floor, probably behind something bullet resistant, then engaged the armed robbers.
In real life, instinct takes over, and instinct is not always the best course of action. I'd buy that off duty officer a beer and congratulate him.

The man and his child were already in a position of danger.
Did he increase the danger? Yes. But it could easily have ended up being a shooting spree, anyway. With more people being shot by the time he could shoot back.

In IDPA I've experienced many stages where we engage strong hand only while carrying a simulated baby (buzz lightyear).
I've never really thought about wether such a thing was good or bad.
In the real world taking time to think can often mean you end up dead. Do you think the other guy is going to let you call a time-out to think the situation over?
