Just heard about this. If it made the news when he was first arrested I missed it.
Former team doctor for Olympics and Michigan State University will spend rest of his life in prison for abusing 100+ girls. I still believe there should be a finite time limit on accusations.
5 years from the time of the alleged act in the case of an adult, or in the case of a minor 5 years from when they turn 18. After 20 years, very little chance for a conviction. Sad reality of all this, is that I would venture most participated to gain advancement.
Not that it was right by any stretch, but engaging in wrong conduct to either start their careers or gain higher objectives. Hell, I'd venture to say there are a far larger number of the general population, us here included, that would do some pretty shady shit to be a millionaire or famous. It's when you reach that pinnacle, or goal, and realize you have to get that nasty feeling out of you that you finally break your silence, but never from the start as you may never make it. If there was no goal or reward, the victim would scream harassment/rape/quid-pro-quo in a flash. But, if you're on track to be a star you just deal with it until you've made your mark or goal? That in itself is wrong for both parties. How many would be willing to give up their awards, money and fame to break silence? Probably not a lot, as their fame and money is what their purpose is. But I'm stating this on the basis of a willing adult that is a participant and doesn't blow the cover UNTIL they are famous. Children are an entire different level that there should never be a limitation of prosecution, an the sick fucker should be publicly castrated. |
