When will it end? Sometimes I go thru an old periodical and I see sales tax 4%. When will the state's hunger STOP?

Also use CASH and let the waiter declare it.

Check out El Gacho in Tacoma. You wont be disappointed.

Oh yeah there’s one of those in Bellevue too. Damn good.

Possible solution: bring cash, calculate the tax on the gratuity and leave that much less.

Use cash and tip what you feel is right.

My buddy is the manager at Aqua by El Gaucho down on the piers in Seattle. Its every bit as good as Canlis. If you're headed that way let me know, I'll call him and make sure he takes good care of you.

So the servers are making $15 an hour and garenteed 20% of sales. FUCK. I used to work in restraunts and have seen what wait staff can make in tips. I don`t believe in manditory tipping, if I get good service I tip 20% if I get bad service I tip 10% If I get shitty service you ain`t getting shit. A couple of days ago I took my wife out for Mexican food at a place we go to often and the service was outstanding and had no problem tipping 30%. I won`t go to a place with manditory tipping. I feel the tip is a measure of service provided

Tipping has been covered at least 27 times here. You nailed it.

Canlis is worth it in my book. Been there a handful of times and have never been disappointed.
lately, we tend to hang out in Kirkland or Bellevue where things aren't so ridiculous. i really like going to anthony's homeport.

I find it suspect that they do collect the tip tax.

Is that even legal?

I know the server has/supposed to pay income tax on gratuity but sales????

When did Wa state start taxing services????

Hair cuts, Lawyers, Dr's I thought were all tax exempt.

Could you imagine another ten percent tax tacked on top of the price of a gall bladder surgery? Or a divorce lawyer bill?

Sumpthin fishy.

I haven't been there in a while... but The Crab Cracker in kirkland has always been good. A bit pricey, but I have never left there feeling like I didn't get what I payed for.... Their crab bisque was to die for! A big bowl and some rolls made for a good meal.

If you don't mind driving south a ways, Stanley and seaforts in Tacoma is pretty good. There is the melting pot there too which has great food and excellent service.

The whole gratuity and especially a "Mandatory" gratuity are BS if you ask me. And to those suggesting that you not pay a mandatory gratuity that has been added onto your bill, that is a good way to get the police called on you.

The wife and I took our family to Disney World a few years ago. We made reservations at a buffet restaurant inside the park. When my wife made the reservations she requested a booth for us to sit at. When we showed up to eat (we were on time) the said that there wasn't a booth available. So we sat a table with chairs. The whole time we were there a booth across from us sat unoccupied. All the wait staff did was seat us at our table and bring us our drinks. The bill for 4 adults and 1 child was around $200 and a suggested gratuity of either 15% or 20%. The waiter didn't look very happy at the $5.00 tip.

I'm not sure why the gratuity needs to be based on a percentage of what the bill is. How is it worth more to bring out a $10.00 steak vs. a $40.00 steak. I feel that if it is 2 people out for dinner and service was good then a $5.00 tip is fine. 4 or more people at the table and you can adjust the amount appropriately.

Lots of great responses!

Thanks, OldBravo, for the birthday wishes :thumbsup2:

Funny thing....wife had to go into the office today, ended up having to stay all day because something was critical, so I canceled the reservation I had made....LOL....

Great suggestions from Edogg & others about the East Side & Tacoma.

Looks like I'll be making new reservations, and now have a lot more things to look at.

Might have to take Sinus up on his kind offer.....

I normally don't care about celebrating my birthday, but I was in the ICU for each of the last two, so it's something special my wife wants to do.

Thanks again for all the great input :cheers2:
