Yes, I'm a shellfish farmer by trade.

You must be young.
I'm 57 now and after working around heavy machinery I'm do the "WHAT? WHAT did he say??"

Put em on, with ear plugs too. :)

I'm 54. I usually wear them. Especially if I'm on it for extended periods of time, or have to take a shot at a pack rat or porcupine.
I actually left them off because I thought my hydraulic pump was making noise. It thankfully was the heater fan.

Yes, there's a picture of one I "assassinated" here a week ago in WAGUTS.

That is one downside of wearing ear pro all the time.

I didn't realize the bearings were shot on my table saw until a couple weeks ago.

Must have been bad for a while since the plastic housing holding the end of the armature was melted and only half the balls were still in the cage.

hehehheh... you said balls.

My table saw melted like that recently. Cutting a lot of MDF killed it. A guy who does power tool repair told me to really attack the motor with an air hose at the end of every day to try to prevent that from occurring.

So.... does this mean you hunt down a new armature, and housing? or is it like mine, where the parts have been declared obsolete and new motors for the "same" model just different enough to preclude use forcing you to get a new saw?

I replaced the 4 bearings and the housing.

The housing was only $18 and the bearings $23 from McGuire bearing. About half the price of the repackaged dewalt bearings.

Yeah! I'd be happy not living so close to my neighbors that they ask me why I put so much toothpaste on the brush and why I put the forks in the top drawer instead of the second drawer.

(seriously; my neighbor once said to me: "I can look out of my bedroom window, look through your kitchen and right out the front door. - i wondered WTF they were doing staring so intently into my house)

Nice video badclam, beautiful looking property there. Jealous for sure  WA coast is beautiful.

Watching the equipment video reminds me of working as a forester in my first career... Used to work with logging contractors around front end loaders (944/966), rubber tired skidders, heel boom loaders, cable yarding machines, logging trucks, water trucks, and timber falling crews... You get used to figuring out which chainsaw sounds mean you can get smashed flat in a hurry (steady cutting, silence interspersed with hammering) vs OK to approach (on/off staccatto for tree limbing). Used to really enjoy watching the sight of big trees falling and hitting the ground.

Enjoy my second career as a computer geek but somedays miss working around loggers and heavy equipment in the woods.

Good luck with equipment maintenance getting everything ready for winter storage.

I couldn't live like that. We don't have a single curtain in the whole house. I can't even imagine having a neighbor anymore.

I love it here. I love the freedom. I love the resources. I love living with the wildlife. I love doing what ever I want with nobody to complain. There's endless entertainment here. It's not for everyone though. We're off the grid, so I'm the electric and water department. I had to find a break in the water line tonight after work. Hiking up the hill through the brush in the pouring rain. We burn about 10 cord of wood a year. UPS is the only delivery I can get here. No mail, no FedEx, no pizza. The closest decent restaurant is in another state half an hour away. Nothing is open after 7pm except the quick stop that closes at 10PM. There are no decent medical services, and the fire department, ambulance is volunteer. None of the conveniences of the city exist here. It's kind of like elk camp all year long. You have to be very self sufficient.

Not for everyone, but I love it here.

Good on you paying attention to it. You should get a service manual and a set of gauges and flow meter and check that it is OK. Honestly once a pump starts making noise it is already too late, things have gone bang... Depending on the machine/pump, checking case flow can tell you when it is time for a rebuild before it gets REALLY expensive.
