Not that bad.
Leading cause of death in Mexico City is still diabetes.

Building codes need updating, and their shit won't collapse so easily.

That escalated quickly....

I may be wrong, but it seems like the majority of deaths attributed to 7+ earthquakes are due to shitty building standards. The 6.8 earthquake in 2001 reportedly only killed one person that had a heart attack. The damage was expensive but not TEOTWAWKI damage.

Gives me hope that whenever "the big one" hits Seattle or LA, we'll be better off.

Um, ya the infrastructure around here is better built than a 3rd world country like Mexico but its nowhere close to being earthquake safe. The roads, bridges and overpasses around here are in desperate need of repair or replacement.

Just clean the voter registration rolls in both states, and they will automatically turn Red for the next election.

25 years of Motor Voter law will prostitute any voter list beyond repair.

Do some research on the Richter scale. It's a logarithmic scale. .3 higher on the scale is twice the shaking. So a 7.1 is twice as much shaking as a 6.8 with about 3 times the released energy.
A 7.0 is much worse than a 6.8. Each whole number is ten times worse. So a 7.0 is ten times harder than a 6.0 and releases 31 times more energy.
It's also going to depend on how deep the quake is. If it's deep enough it's not felt on the surface as bad.
