Um, ya the infrastructure around here is better built than a 3rd world country like Mexico but its nowhere close to being earthquake safe. So a 7.1 is twice as much shaking as a 6.8 with about 3 times the released energy. A 7.0 is much worse than a 6.8. Each whole number is ten times worse. So a 7.0 is ten times harder than a 6.0 and releases 31 times more energy. It's also going to depend on how deep the quake is.
