Bowfishing? Have you done it?

I recently learned of bow fishing! I'm pretty bad when it comes to normal fishing, why not add extra excitement and shoot unsuspecting fish with an arrow! And reel it back in with pure style.

Has anybody had any expereince doing this in Washington? I want to try it, but not sure where the best place to go is. I also don't want to fork out the money to purchase all the equipment without trying it first. Any tips or help here? Not sure how popular this is in WA.

Currently can only bowfish Asiatic Carp in Washington. You dont need a fishing license even. They are an invasive species and have no season, nor catch limit. I dont get out as much as I like as there are no carp here on the Westside, but I do love to bowfish when I can. Check out the WBA, the Washington Bowfishing Association. They run all the big tournaments and such around here. Also working on trying to some game fish to be caught bowfishing. Its a good resource for info.

Plenty of fucking massive carp on lacamas lake in my neck of the woods. I don't bow fish but I know people who do. As others have said, you can only bow fish for asiatic carp in this state

I've actually done it.
Carp = crap, same thing...
Just buy the cheapest fiberglass long bow you can find and attach the line holder under your hand. Where you hold the bow.
I don't know if they still have package deals or not. Just look around.
HELLAFUN!!!!!!!!!

We had three of us on the little creeks by Lake Mardon.
Just wait for one of them suckers to break water - aim two inches below the water line and release! If you hit them just right, you'll think you missed because nothing is going on with your line. Pull the line in and on the arrow will be a two foot crap 'er carp.
Pull the locking arrow out and throw his sorry ass behind you.
Wind up the string and repeat.
I think we had something like 15~20 on the banks behind us when the game warden wandered by.
"How you guys doing?" "Oh, never mind, I see them now." "Keep up the good work."

Sorry, I meant no carp on the real West side. I'm sure in Mexico there is some, much more similar climate and lakes as the great desert.

Did it a couple years back while fishing on Banks lake. It sounded fun, but in practice it wasn't. The spring-barbed arrow was a pain in the ass to pull back through the carp, makes a huge mess, and you just toss the dying fish back into the lake since most people don't eat carp. I don't know, I'm no bleeding heart; I hunt and fish, but it felt a bit cruel and wasn't anywhere near as satisfying as I thought it would be. After we knocked a few carp over we spooled the line back up and put the bow away.

OTOH it would be a pretty easy way to nail a fish that you actually wanted to eat in shallow water.

YMMV
