Did it work? Yup. I can't 'splain it. But . . . perhaps you should consider that you might lose all your photos soon too . . . might be a good time to make the leap to another host.

Well, I spent most of the morning and probably half of the afternoon going back and fixing many of my old posts, replacing broken Photobucket links with new Imgur links.
Let me tell you, Photobucket has done some serious damage to the content of WaGuns, and no doubt to many other websites as well. It's really horrifying to look through the older threads and see all of the pictures missing.
Some of them are just the usual banter and in reality it's not a big deal to lose that content, but we also have many threads that provide helpful information, that people will find for years to come via Google searches. It's sad to lose that.

I still have pics on Photobucket I put on there 10 years ago. Very rarely use it, never paid them anything. That's about when I took this with my Nikon D-40.

You are a rich man to have so much of that valuable commodity, TIME. Not a chance until winter for me. The amount of helpful knowledge that was lost (probably forever) is criminal. F*** PhotoBucket.

Yes, that is the rub, especially since this happened without warning, on what had previously been a free picture hosting service, for the purpose of posting pictures online. For that reason, I hope Photobucket crashes and burns, and their management is never able to land a real job again. Trying to hold the entire internet for ransom deserves a massive backlash.

Let this be a lesson to all, there is no such thing as a free internet service. If you cannot figure out what they are selling, they are selling *you.*

I couldn't stand the ads on Photobucket, so about 10 years ago I switched to Smugmug. I did have a paid account on Photobucket, but they still had tons of ads. Photography is also a hobby for me, so it's not just gun photos. That said, I pay about $50 a year and don't worry about it. One of my car restoration galleries has about 2 million views. So, I guess I've spent about a Glock's worth of money on photo hosting over the past 10 years, but it has been hassle free.

I was photo-shamed by Mr MadPick (again) about my photo capabilities... If not for my masochistic nature it might bother me. Imgur was specifically mentioned... MadPick wrote: Your lack of Imgur capability is horrifying. I set up an account in Imgur last year after a previous public humiliation, but this little tidbit made me wonder: Imgur's Terms of Service http://imgur.com/tosQuote: Stuff not to do If someone else might own the copyright to it, don't upload it. Don't upload gore, "hate speech" (i.e. demeaning race, gender, age, religious or sexual orientation, etc.), or material that is threatening, harassing, defamatory, or that encourages violence or crime. Don't upload illegal content such as child porn or nonconsensual ("revenge") porn. Don't hotlink to adult content or to file-sharing, gambling, torrent, warez, or Imgur rip-off sites. Don't impersonate someone else. Also, don't use Imgur to host image libraries you link to from elsewhere, content for your website, advertising, avatars, or anything else that turns us into your content delivery network. If you do – and we will be the judge – or if you do anything illegal, in addition to any other legal rights we may have, we will ban you along with the site you're hotlinking from, delete all your images, report you to the authorities if necessary, and prevent you from viewing any images hosted on Imgur.com. We mean it. I am not saying that it doesn't function- I just wonder about this. It is true. And a lesson to be learned. Whether from this, or any other thread.

Agreed. It's always been clear to me what Photobucket was selling: Advertising. Lots of it. Lots of really irritating flashing banner ads and pop-up videos.

Yes, but now they have gone "ransomware" is the lesson. Exoect others to do the same before they go under. "That's some real nice content you got there, be shame if somethin was to happen to it..."
