I have been using them for years and linked a few pics from them lately. Today i got an e-mail, no more 3rd party link posting unless i pay up.
Fuck you Photobucket, i will download all my pics and you can wither on the Vine like some other places that went "Pay".

Many of you have probably already noticed that the images you've posted (hosted by Photobucket) are now replaced with a little message saying "please update your account to enable 3rd party hosting." So now all of the sudden, after years of posted images, you have to pay $40/mo or $400 annually for an upgraded account in order for our images to reappear.

So... Which service should we switch to?

Yeah, innumerable picture threads are damaged. And to answer your question, imgur.

Luckily I switched a long time ago.

I also make sure I have copies of all my pics on a removable hard-drive.

Easy enough to switch to imgur, but informative post going back a decade are now void of images. Old instructional DIY post with pictures are gone forever.

Fuck Photobucket. I wouldn't go back if they made it free again. I paid them to not have pop ups, and now this?
We need to send a message to other would be internet pirates that this kind of business model won't work.

My old posts still show the pics I posted from Photobucket. Just for testing I am posting a pic from them.

I got this email today so I copied the pictures I didn't have and emailed them saying "without 3rd party viewing, what good were they?" We're done

Now that we have a site requiring people to pay so their pic's can be viewed by others, wait for the other shoe to drop.

I've noticed several sites pop up that require members to buy a membership of one "level" or another so they can post photo's not hosted by a third party site. With those eventually going to pay sites people who want to post images will end up paying one way or another.

Well, I've spent most of the morning dealing with Photobucket issues, and I have a long ways to go.

I haven't used Photobucket for several years because I despise the advertising onslaught, but I still have a lot of photos and videos there from years past. Today I decided to "rescue" those images, and update some of my WaGuns threads with new links. In a nutshell, here are a few things that I found:

- Photobucket is still a piece of shit with the advertising . . . OMG, it bogs down my computer and gets really frustrating.
- I can "download album" in Photobucket, and get all of the normal .jpg images downloaded to my computer. It's not quite that simple, since there are a bunch of steps and captchas to get through, but it does work.
- The "download album" feature won't download animated .gif files, but you can go to them individually and download them.
- The "download album" feature won't download videos. In theory you can download them individually, but every time I try I get a "3rd party hosting" error. If anyone finds a way to download videos, please let me know.

I'm moving all of my photos and .gif files to Imgur.com. If I can get the videos downloaded, I'll move those to YouTube.

Fuck Photobucket.

This is a good lesson for all of us, though. The same thing could happen with any other website, and it might not be as simple as disabling third party hosting . . . the site could go belly-up overnight, and you could lose all of your files. Backups, people.
