I just picked this up this morning. At first glance I thought it was just some cheap knife. But the hangers on the scabbard peaked my interest. Since I could see an identifiable mark on the blade I thought for .50 cents how can I go wrong. So Is this an authentic 1918 AU Lion, Mark 1, Trench Knife ? Obviously its missing the handle. Any help would be great.

For 50 cents you scored bigly! Great find. Blade is fantastic, just needs some cleaning.
You're correct, looks like a WWI era "Au Lion" 1918 knife.
Some had brass knuckles, and the looks of the makeshift handle being replaced and ground down, suggests this went through refitting or something, maybe to make it legal for ownership in the states?

It'd be interesting to remove the tape (?) and see if you find the ground down original handle under there. It looks like the pommel tip is removable which lets the handle come off the tang. Maybe soak it in PB Blaster for a couple of days (assuming you want to take it apart).
