WOW! Quote: A SNIPER with Canada’s elite special forces in Iraq has shattered the world record for longest confirmed kill from a staggering distance of 3450 metres.
A member of Joint Task Force 2 killed an Islamic State terrorist with a McMillan TAC-50 sniper rifle, The Glode and Mail reported.
The shot took just under 10 seconds to hit the target and was fired from a high-rise location during an operation within the past four weeks.
“Canada has a world-class sniper system. It is not just a sniper. They work in pairs. There is an observer,” a military source said. “This is a skill set that only a very few people have.” Now that is an understatement if there ever was one. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/po ... e35415651/

Joint Task Force Two. Tasked solely with finding and killing top al-Qa'ida and now Daesh leaders since....well, no one knows exactly. Canadians: Quiet, polite, and deadly. Attachment: 69252d416243c5a3c0c8b877feec5173 (1).jpg

The Coriolis Effect refers to the deflection on the trajectory of the bullet generated by the spinning motion of the Earth. Its effect is negligible at medium distances, but becomes important around 1000yds and beyond, especially because it can add to other minimal errors and keep you off target.
Coriolis effect affects everything not firmly attached to the Earth’s surface. It affects fluids, like air and water, as well as floating and flying objects like ships, airplanes and… bullets.
Despite being associated with Coriolis, the phenomenon that actually affects the vertical component of the trajectory is called Eötvös Effect. The rotation of the Earth generates a centrifugal force, the same that pushes you to the side when you make a sharp turn with your car. This force acts perpendicular to the Earth rotatory axis, adding or subtracting to the gravity force. When an object flies eastward, in the same direction of Earth’s rotation, centrifugal force acts opposite of gravity, pushing it away from the Earth’s surface. If the object flies westward, in the opposite direction of the Earth rotation, centrifugal force pushes the object toward the ground concurrently to gravity force. Thus, bullets fired to the east always fly a little higher, and, conversely, bullets fired to the west always travel somewhat low.Source: https://thearmsguide.com/5329/external- ... y-section/

Amazing. Previous record was with a 338 Lapua. I was thinking about that too.... 3540 meters = 12,000 ft means that the AVG velocity was 1200 ft/sec... knowing that the muzzle velocity is ~3000 ft/sec, that means the terminal velocity at impact had to be pretty low --- say 600-700? Maybe less? (haven't looked up vel vs distance for 50) Still, with a 50 cal bullet at that speed, it had to be pretty messy... must have been like a mortar dropping down on him ---- splat.

Of the ten voices I hear in my head, only three keep telling me NOT to shoot.... Do I go with the majority or common sense?

10 seconds is long enough to text him and tell him he's about to die
