A Syrian army statement released on Syrian state television said the plane crashed and the pilot was missing in the first such downing of a Syrian jet by the United States since the start of the conflict in 2011.

The army statement said it took place on Sunday afternoon near a village called Rasafah.

The "flagrant attack was an attempt to undermine the efforts of the army as the only effective force capable with its allies ... in fighting terrorism across its territory," the Syrian army said.

"This comes at a time when the Syrian army and its allies were making clear advances in fighting the Daesh (Islamic State) terrorist group," it added.

Russia doesn't have to fight face to face on this one. They have numerous S400 deployment sites in Syria and Russia has claimed for some time that they can identify and track F22s easily if they do anything more than fly on a straight course.

Our claim is that Syria was bombing Kurdish positions. The Kurds also fight ISIS, but Syria doesn't want Kurds gaining autonomy, so they would be likely to "accidentally" bomb them while striking ISIS positions.

Shooting down the Su 22 was a bad idea on top of a giant pile of other bad ideas.

Two American F-15C's shot down two more MIG-29's that had crossed from Serbia into Bosnia. Four other MIG's fled or were chased off.

We've got Syria and it's government, which the US hates and Russia loves.
We've got the domestic terrorists/rebels, that the US loves and Russia/Syria both hate.
We've got ISIS, that the rebels, US, Russia, and Syria all hate.

If the US doesn't like the Syrian government, and wants to do something about it, they should go assassinate the leader. No more of this silly "Arm the rebels" bullshit. Put up or shut up. Either fucking do something, or get the hell out.

Oh yeah, and send all the Syrians back to Syria and tell them to fix their fucking country.
