Also, the 1969 version was almost entirely rewritten by Reagan in 1982 - so any complaints you have, you should bring up with Ronnie and the GOP.

Partial history is partial. Reagan cut it back pretty hard, it's been tuned to suck out more resources since then - plus a bunch of tweaks.

It's part of our social contract as Americans. Do you own a car? Do you drive on roads? It would be THEFT to drive on them without contributing (through taxes). That is part of why the sovereign citizen bullshit doesn't fly with me. I am all for taxes. I am also all for limited government. While I am happy to gain infrastructure like fire departments and roads, I dislike things like the ATF.

I would prefer the elimination of withholding tax altogether and let the taxpayer write a check for the amount due bi-annually. Feel the pain twice a year for the full amount you could have kept if it weren't for Uncle Sugar squandering your hard earned income.

How many W-2 employees could do that? Have to set up a network of debtors prisons.

I pay OR state income taxes and wouldn't be able to deduct those.

WA state residents can write of sales taxes over a certain amount.

I'd prefer use taxes for many things, e.g. roads. Road taxes for roads and only roads not mass transit.

Home mortgage interest deduction was concocted decades ago, got to go. We had car interest deduction years ago, glad to see that go.

I'd prefer to pay to state and they forward an amount per person to the fedgov as it was before.
