Delete comments intead of locking threads

Instead of locking threads, what do you guys think about instead just deleting all the bad comments?
I had a thread that had lots of good stuff in it, until some people started posting stupid shit. That resulted in the thread being locked. So now I can't comment in it. With the thread locked, the stupid shit is still posted, and still being indexed by google/yahoo/bing. If comments are bad enough to lock a thread, I think they should be purged from the internet altogether. |

The mods do have full time jobs and lots of cake to eat. While I think it would be awesome to delete comments, it would be quite a task to handle
