With the fact that GIFs are terrible, and WEBMs rule. Can the image handler be updated to embed these?

Age of the geek, learn the lingo or get out of the way! WebMs are little videos, instead of GIFs that are tweened pictures. Flipbook vs movie. More englisher? Things like: http://i.imgur.com/gjOjZqc.gifv wont embed, but if you use a choppy/huge gif, it WILL work. However it will be slow to load. One is using the Graphics interchange format, something from the early early web to string highly compressed images together to provide motion. This is old and outmoded, never really meant for the modern web. The NEW version of that, is an actual video file with the correct type of compression/decompression. Files are smaller, it loads faster, has better color depth, and the resolution is miles higher.

(aka the point) That is only for that image host as well, others don't serve up gifs all that fast. Unless you where just being funny, then you full on got me there. But if we had a "Random HTML5" thread, that would just sound stupid.

I'll look into it. The problem is then a new BB code, and then training the masses on when to use which IMG tag. Is .gifv bring adopted outside of imgur? Last I looked it was pretty much just them trying to pave the way.

Last I looked it was pretty much just them trying to pave the way. Well the gifv isn't a real extention, it is just cleverness to get the webm adoption rate up because it is so easy. You could easily regex anything gifv to webm as it is served up the same way. The tricky part will be the gfycat links. Now if we could just get people off of photobucket... Maybe an image hosting service for waguns is in order. I do need to rack up a spare Dell 900 I have sitting in the gun room....
