Some of you who LIVE on the site may notice that, recently, a few spammers have gotten through. It's happening to a lot of forums currently as these things come in waves. For the 10-15 that have made it through, we have stopped over 1,000 just by registration tactics (which we are constantly monitoring and updating). We will continue to weed through and out their IP's and add new registration tactics until they go away (for now).

I wanted to let you know that keep doing what you are doing and hit the "!" on the spammers message. We will see it in short order and kill them off. We appreciate the help.

Also, I think it's worth mentioning that the CoC doesn't apply when dealing with spammers. Carry on! :thumbsup2:

Someone needs to develop a "virus" that goes back upstream to spammers. Respond to their post and when they open it their computer is infected with a picture of "Teenie Weenie" that dances across their screen forever.

I think you've done all you can to get rid of all the spam bots. I think you're seeing actual humans registering and spamming. I could be wrong, I haven't seen the registration process since I first registered here a couple years ago. But that would be my best guess.

If you haven't already you could do the following:

1. Setup a minimum number of posts before you can post links. There's probably a plugin for this.
2. Most captchas are cracked. Add a question/answer captcha but make it unique. 2+2 = ? is not good enough. Make it specific enough to weed out spammers, but easy enough for someone to look up the answer online.
3. Admin approval of all new accounts. Depending on how many new signups you see, this may or may not be a huge pain in the ass.

You guys do a damn good job of keeping spammers at bay. Keep up the good work.

Thanks! You are correct that most of what we are seeing right now are physical humans registering, and then selling the account information to spammers. We have Q&A instead of CAPTCHA, pretty specific answers based on 2A and the logo. I added a couple more recently in case the Q&A list has been published. I have thought about the links thing, but we have new members join here and post an item for sale, with a photo, linked to photobucket etc.... Still a possibility. Admin approval is also an option, and if it really ramps up where they get through, that's our fail-safe lockdown methood.
