Hey folks, I need to find a new home for one of my Dogs. He is a male (neutered) purebred Rottweiler, about 5 years old, 120lbs. He is normally a teddy bear but has been on steroids to control an auto-immune disorder and it has made him become aggressive towards our other animals. He is not a picky eater and loves to just sit and watch tv with you. He is a very well trained watch dog and will alert you to what is going on and scare the hell out of non-welcomed visitors. He has never bitten a human and seems fine with kids, but the vet recommends no little kids. Let me know if you are interested in giving this big guy a home.

Casey, sorry to hear that. The couple times I've met that pup he was on bis best behavior. Good luck on finding him a good home.

Is there a Rotty rescue locally that can help? Or maybe training?

Unfortunately, Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue, which is the general umbrella for breed-specific rescues in the Northwest, would not refer this dog, given a known history of aggression. Training doesn't appear to be an option--the behavioural changes came after the dog was placed on a steroid regimen, per the OP. If it were my dog--and yes, this sounds heartless--I would have him put down rather than risk the liability inherent in rehoming him. Having fostered a couple of dozen Great Pyrenees, and having run into poorly socialised dogs with food/toy aggression issues, I've had to make that call. One foster came after me when I stepped within three feet of his food bowl--tore open my left calf and exposed bone. Through jeans. It was only because one of my own GP's came after the foster that I wasn't injured more seriously. TCB, maybe talk with your veterinarian about adjusting the pred dose or going with a different drug? I love Rotties, I'd take him in a heartbeat if he didn't have the aggression issues.

You see about adjusting them or changing them as you later said. You don't give up on them when they need you most. The dog was fine before the drugs. Doesn't that sound familiar? "He/she was fine before the medication."

I know it's not apples to apples but that's like saying "my kid had an adverse reaction to new meds and punched someone at school, gotta put him down." Find a way.

I was going to make that analogy but didn't cuz I'm sure someone would shit their pampers and say "A dog is just an animal NOT a human child...meeeeh!"
