Don't they have laws against stealing in South Africa?!!

Just kidding . . . but that's a hell of a deal. Congrats!

And welcome to WaGuns! it's good to have you here.

Thanks MadPick

I also think it was a good buy. Just want to go and shoot it.

Welcome Pieter, and thank you for saving that old Warhorse from destruction. :thumbsup2: The 1911 is a personal favorite of mine, i hope the wait for your permit isn't too long.
Where is it while you wait for your permit? The Widow has it? The Police? How does it work in your Country?

Hi Thanks
The pistol is at my cousins house. It can be kept by someone who has a permit already or the police.
Actually stupid if you think about it. You can still shoot it, but then if they catch you there will be some jail time for you and the person holding it and that means they will take away his firearms. Not worth taking that risk.

PMP is a ammunition brand.

Yep, we have PMP ammo here; I've bought some in the past. I had to look it up, and discovered it was from South Africa. Pretoria Munitions Plant, or something like that...?

My cousin also bought a pump action shotgun that belonged to the old man for like $100, looks like it was fired twice maybe. Winchester Defender. Dont know for how much they go there by you guys. In SA that was also a good deal.

Call Colt directly. They can tell you what year it was made. For $100 they will send you a certification letter that states it's age and where it was originally sent to the first buyer. Nice find, and the aftermarket nickel looks great for how old it is. Be careful with full power loads in it, as Colt didnt start hardening the slides until the 1960s. Very nice. How about some clear pics of the roll marks please ?

There is no markings on the slide, only on the bottom/barrel end of the slide it says property of USA. other than that there is nothing just the serrations on the back.
That is what i find strange because all the 1911 that i have seen has something on the side of the slide.

At this point I wouldn't spend the money. Looks like it is a parts gun meant to shoot and have fun with.
Still a good buy!

Look under the grips for import markings and final inspection stamps

Thats what i am worried about, spending too much on it. In S.A $100 is about a 8th of the average person monthly income.
