Resident of Billings MT since 1995.

My wife and I are considering an eventual relocation to WA state. She is in funerary services and I am in IT desktop/helpdesk support.

I am not a collector of firearms but I have a couple. She has a mini 14. I have an Arsenal SAM7-R (semi automatic 7.62x39) and a Smith & Wesson 29-10 .44 magnum revolver.

I joined the forum because I wanted to fish around here a little bit regarding what actual WA state residents feelings are regarding the odds of your state passing any type of assault weapons ban. I see that your jackass attorney general has been busy lately trying to get some of this pushed through. This type of law if it comes to pass is a problem for me.

I realize much of WA state is (relatively) conservative however the SeaTac area dominates your political climate at the state level from what I have heard.

Are my concerns legitimate?

Apologies in advance if there is a better sub forum for this. I can edit and relocate it if necessary.

Welcome to WaGuns, Owen! :wavey:

For someone who just has a couple of firearms, you sure did pick a couple of good ones. thumbsup And if your wife has a Mini-14, then you did pretty well in the wife department as well!

As for the AWB . . . who knows. Yeah, if it gets through then it will be a problem for many of us. I think the general feeling is that it's unlikely to be passed by the legislature, but the real risk is having it come back as an initiative, where some $$$$ by rich backers could lead to TV ads, which could lead to heartstrings being pulled, which could lead to passage -- just like Initiative 594.

So yeah, I think the threat is real. I don't know what the odds are, though.

A hearty WaGuns welcome! I'd be happy to show you around some of our local rivers. Are you a fly flinger, or do you prefer gear? (I do both, leaning more toward the fly).

*edited to add that I misread your "fishing around here" statement...but I'd still be happy to take you fishing, if you want to go. Haha.

Thanks all. We are looking at other options too like St. George UT and Reno NV. Jobs might be difficult to find in St. George and Reno weather in the winter may not be good.

Jobs should be easier to find in the SeaTac area with the idea of driving into work and living south of the most densely populated spots . I know nobody has a crystal ball and maybe there isn't much anyone can really say to assuage my concerns regarding the dumbass firearms legislation issue.

It would be a bummer to go to all the trouble of moving, finding jobs, etc. and then immediately thereafter have to return my AK and the mini14 back to MT and leave them with my step-dad. icon_eek
