What kind of handgun did you buy? Are you carrying it?

I picked up a Glock 21, and I have carried it with me since picking it up last Friday.

Have you heard about Glacier gun club? It's a great place to shoot in Olympia.

I have been looking at GGC just due to the hours they have, it does look stunning inside (from what I can see on the website). I would want to get more practice in before even trying to join though, my aim currently is not the best.

Practice is good . . . but joining a range and shooting is the best way to do that. thumbsup

You don't have to be an expert, but being safe (i.e., being able to hit the paper) is necessary no matter where you shoot. If you need a little help, just post up when you're going shooting and I'm sure that someone will volunteer to come along.

They are happy to give tours, plus that's how you get better, practice.

Welcome! One reccomendation (for all shooters, not just new ones) is to do dry fire practice. It is a big deal. Helps marksmanship immensely. Just be serious about it, treat it like you are actually shooting and observe all safety measures you would if doing live fire. Plus it will help slick up that glock trigger!

Greetings from Lacey. Another vote for dry fire and practice, though I would also recommend using snap caps when you dry fire....it's cheap insurance and they can be used at any range (that allows) for clearing malfunction drills. A coach or instructor will load a magazine behind your back, slip a snap cap in at a random spot, and return the magazine. You load and fire and when you experience the snap cap you are observed and coached on properly clearing the malfuction as well as evaluated for overall safety during the process. I find them invaluable and ofter gift them out to new shooters or friends that pick up a new gun or one in a new (to them) caliber, they make great stocking stuffers.

I prefer the ones with a spring backed strike plate at the primer: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0048K ... ge_o02_s00
