I feel like an idiot. Bought a humidifier off of offer up, a fairly swanky commerical grade one where the owner said there was a water leak (figured it was the condensate pump and it would be easy enough).

I asked him to plug it in, heard the compressor and felt it start to get cold and paid for it.

Turns out it doesn't get cold enough to condense much. It has a 5/16 valve for r410a, so thinking of charging it and only need a small amount, 11.6 oz

Do you know where I can get that small of an amount? I can also move the dehumidifier to a place than can load r410a.

It's just really expensive for 2 lb bottles and only a few bucks more for the 25 mbs can. Thanks!

Wow 1lb bottles are expensive! I'd just try to find a HVAC tech who does side work. As for the refrigerant itself....could buy a 10 bottle and try to trade said HVAC tech for the work and they take the remainder of the bottle. I don't know what it is out here, but by me it's pretty much a $50-75 per pound charge for the HVAC guys to use their own.

Probably wasn't much help. Guess in short is id try to find a HVAC tech doing it on the side

If it leaked once it will probably leak again

Might as well buy the bigger bottle

I needed to buy 134a refrigerant recently and found out the general public can’t buy it from a store, you have to be certified. Washington state recently outlawed the sale of any refrigerant to the general public. There are people selling 134a on Craigslist ect… but i haven’t seen 410a in a while. A person could drive to Oregon and still buy the 12oz cans of 134a, but I don’t know about 410a.

Thanks for all the input.

I have been trying to find an AC tech who does side jobs and came out short on it. Really the recovery bottle (to do it properly) and everything to do it right just make the item throwaway at a certain point. So it would be recharging with a leak stop and hoping it is a sub 5 micron leak. no oil, so it's not a large spot. It's a time sink lol.

I don't know enought about it but maybe you can use an alternative

Might not be as efficient but would still do something

Yeah, I wouldn't want you to get in trouble. I was hoping someone had some in a evac bottle. I just don't have the stuff to evac anymore and friends who do are back in Texas.

I would feel bad if I dumped a pound in and the sealant didn't work, it's just not good for the environment.

It worked well when it ran
