I'm making a grab handle out of 1/2" steel pipe. The grip tape I've seen is mostly used for flat surfaces, and other tapes I've seen that can bend aren't designed for long term use (eg for bats/golf clubs), or are too rubbery and will be even more slippery when wet than plain pipe.
Any suggestions?
At this point, only thing I can think of is spending a week with a dremel, making tiny cuts across the whole thing.

I used 1/2" pipe to make a bail style handle on a homemade tool box. I used bicycle handlebar tape which worked nicely.
Maybe spray on rhino liner type stuff?

hockey tape?
since i have no idea what you're doing other than making a grab handle, i'm assuming you may be wearing gloves? white hockey grip tape is easy to apply and remove when needed and cheap to give it a shot

Go find a nice rural chip sealed road. Toss your pipe down and drive over it a bunch with your big ol truck.
Instant knurling.

Instant knurling.
Instructions unclear. Both attempts failed. Please advise.

Literally a grab handle, to assist in loading and unloading my ass from the truck...
I was thinking maybe 550 cord wrapped around and cemented in place?

I'd go with a 1" Pipe and skateboard Tape or the aforementioned Hockey tape. 1/2" pipe is pretty small to grip.

Do a search for Paracord warped hand rail.
Or find yourself a Boatswains Mate

That's not a bad idea....
What's your thought on a rubberized spray on bedliner material with sand sprinkled on during the spray/dry process?

Look at vet wrap from a feed store or the silicone self vulcanizing or rescue tape from auto parts store
