My wife and I fish on Silver Lake quite often. It's usually pretty good, although as others said, better in the spring than summer. We usually fish from the dock, but I picked up a small boat with electric motor last year so we'll be skipping the dock next time.
The bottom is fairly flat and debris-free so we use a heavy sinker, 3-4' leader, and smallish hook with either floating PowerBait or live worms. Cast it out a ways, let it sink to the bottom, reel up the slack, and then wait for a bite. If I get bored with that, I'll put on a spoon or rooster tail and cast-and-reel. We've had pretty good success. Wife caught a 16" rainbow last time we went. I cut it into fillets and fried them up in a cast iron skillet - delicious.
The only problem with Silver Lake is the limited dock space and heavy pressure. Oh, and the guys who get shitty drunk, chain smoke, yell profanities, and just generally ruin the ambience. That's why we got a boat.
