Elk is at the butcher, hide is fleshed, salted, and in the freezer until later. The hat I had made a few years ago by this woman https://pleasantboundariescsa.wordpress.com/Fishranger is will be known as "The Elk Whisperer". When dogfish comes to help recover an elk, he brings his son and a film crew.

We did okay. 8 guys, 5 spikes, 3 cows. Had fun helping Dana recover his elk. Hiked some hellish miles, lots of elevation changes, and got out of the truck. Best elk season, ever. Just about everything I took with me has blood on it, including my 20 year old son.

There was a lot of smiles and wobbling legs in that camp last night.

Tag unfilled..... Had a couple 4 points, a 5 and 6 running around but couldn't close the deal. Aside from the downpour on the opener, nothing but mid sixties weather with sun and Moon, add on we prepare for bad weather and good weather got us off guard. Last time we had more than a day of good weather was in 96'. Don't have enough fingers to count how many times I got scented out...... Being that we hunt brush, if you hear them they're under 50 yds away. But with the weather, lots of miles and a couple naps in the sun, it was one of our better trips!

With gunshot day before and it's constant nonstop crying over a couple days, we figure mom is gone. The cub won't make it through winter up there, but he just couldn't bring himself to pull the trigger. Don't blame him, mother nature will unfortunately handle it.

Did he call it in to Wildlife and Fisheries?

Headed out tomorrow to hunt some private family land in the Columbia River Gorge for blacktail. GMU #564 Battle Ground. Hunting with my UTAS XTR-12 shotgun as rifles are not allowed in this GMU.Got a ground blind and my Father-In-Law has been out there dropping apple piles and spraying doe piss. This will be strictly a meat hunt. Hopefully, I'll see a buck (there have been a couple on the game cameras over the last few days), but it's "any deer", so if a good sized doe presents itself, I won't turn it down.
Wish me luck. I'm a rookie at this. I'll put some pics up on Monday after the season ends.

A good size doe will put meat in the freezer. And you will get the experience of dressing out big game. Once you pull that trigger, the fun is over

Once you pull that trigger, the fun is over Half the fun is in the story telling afterwards and the thought of those that viewed your hunt from 900 yards and watched as you took your game to the next level....you can sing songs about the songs they will sing around the campfire as the recall your tale of killing.
