Hi everyone... Newly returned to the area, lived in New England for almost 40 years, born and raised in Oly area... Anyway, like the title says, looking for something close to Real Italian cooking in or near Thurston county... No chains please! No places that call it red sauce either...

The Pink Door in Seattle used to be pretty good, but the last time I was there was 20 years ago! There are a couple of other highly rated restaurants in Seattle near Pioneer square. That's the best help I can offer, and I admit it's not much.
Will be eagerly awaiting reviews of places you find to try.
I haven't had good Italian food since going to Sabatino's in Baltimore or, even further back, to the restaurant I worked at in the central valley CA. (owned by an Italian family - most of whom are now DEAD! Frack!!! I'm OLD!)

Just spoiled I guess from all the generation owned places in New England.. Anyone here been to eastern Ct.? There are only a few places on the entire west coast that compare to the Italian food in Italian areas of NE. San Francisco has a couple good places. If you somehow get up this way, try the three places I suggested......they are all different styles. None like CT. But OK. http://ristorantetropea.com/http://blusardinia.com/http://firenzerestaurantbellevue.com/

I really miss NY style pizza, but good italian in general as well.

Little spendy, but this downtown Oly is pretty good, but I haven't been in some time. Ristorante Basilico http://ristorantebasilico.com/http://www.ristorantebasilico.com/images/pdfs/January2017menu.pdf

Best advice is to learn to cook.
I'm a pretty good self-taught cook and for simple dishes, like Lasagna, Spaghetti, for instance, I haven't had any or have had few that are better than what I can do at home for a whole lot less $.
I almost universally am disappointed in restaurant meals. Rarely better than what I can do, and always about 3-5 times as expensive.

Marzano's is pretty good.
(edited to add it's in Parkland)
Sorry it's not in Thurston County, as you requested, but it's really good food; house-made pastas, orchestra, etc.
Another good place, but even further north from you, is Bistro Baffi. It's an odd little place all the way up in Burien, but if you're ever up I-5, might want to keep it in mind.
There are supposed to be a couple of decent places in Puyallup, with hand-made pastas, but haven't experienced it myself, so don't know yet; perhaps others can chime in.

I've heard that Ricardo's is good.
Italian is actually pretty easy to do from home, and it can go in so many different directions. I would recommend learning how to make your own pasta. From there the possibilities are endless.
