I have a large Asian plum tree in my back yard. Last August, I discovered how tasty they are, but most of them went to waste because I either couldn't get to them or the birds and squirrels got to them first. I decided that this summer I would try to make more use of them. Well, the tree is putting out twice as many this year as last year, and they're ripe now. I rigged up an extension pole with a catch basket and have been picking about 3-4 dozen per day for the past week and a half. I've been eating a lot, but I've been giving most of them away to family and friends. I still have about 100 in a basket on my kitchen counter and probably 300 more on the tree. They're pretty damn good, but I can only eat so many. I have a batch of plum syrup in the works, but what else would you do with them?

My grandma used to can plums. I do not remember her procedure, but I remember a pantry full of them. As a kid, I hated them, but the adults all loved them (canned that is) year around. Still not sure I would like them as they are very mushy when canned. You could always dry them and make prunes... If you are into that.

I have a HUGE Italian plum tree in my yard that produces way more than I can use.

Last year I made homemade plum Jelly which kicked ass, had family & friends come over and pick as much as they wanted, then took several boxes full to my local food bank. They were more than appreciative to get them.

G4L, are these the yellow plums?

I have a similar tree in my backyard. The last couple of years, yield has been low, but before that I used to get the same metric shit-ton. I ate as many as the septic system could handle, brought bags to work, etc. but it was pretty hard to get rid of them. One of my neighbors made some plum jam which was pretty good, but other than that I never did find any recipes that seemed promising for those plums.

Put bags of them out at the curb with a $10 price wrote on them. Write NON GMO on them.

I gave a bag full to a co-worker who is going to can them. I'm open to trying them, but also expect them to be mushy, which doesn't sound appealing. I haven't developed a taste for prunes yet, but I'll give it time.

The food bank idea is a good one. I think I'll take a box down there later this afternoon.

Unfortunately, I've developed an intolerance to alcohol. If I have more than 1 drink, I get a horrible stomach ache and nausea. Otherwise, that's a good suggestion!

That's a good idea. I was wondering how best to store them frozen - this might be it.

They're only yellow when they're not ripe; when they ripen, they're plum-colored (dark purple):

Find a mule and I'll send you a bag full! :cheers2:

"Organic, non-GMO, gluten-free, fair trade, sustainable, traceable Asian plums - $10/lb.". I'm near Edmonds, so I'll probably have a line down the block. :ROFLMAO:

Haha, I've actually been lobbing the bad ones at the squirrels every time I see them in the tree. I'd love a plum gun, but they're so soft they'd turn into a purple mist inside the gun.

Seriously though I think Dreadi nailed it with the plum wine idea. Fun christmas gift to hand out. Get to tell them about making it and how it came from the tree in your yard.
