I was waiting for someone to mention turkey.
Why is that ONLY cooked at Thanksgiving time?
I stuffed one in the weber a few years ago for my birthday in June.
An hour later it looked like it had been sitting next to an ants nest for a week.

:plusone: Smoked turkey is fantastic especially after soaking in a wet brine overnight. Super moist. Turkey breast is also a great option if a little less meat is called for

If the rain isn't causing my smoker to float, I use it all winter, spring, summer, and fall. Only thing that might slow me down is no room in the Refrigerator or Freezer.

I also grill and smoke year round, but I have noticed the absolute crazy increase of use of charcoal and pellets in cold weather.

I have a covered patio I cook on , so like the rest of you, I am a year round cooker.

While the majority of us here might be year rounders, I can tell you the majority of the rest of the public are not. My business plummeted after the rains started on Oct, and did not recover until last month when we got a few non raining days. Sold more in last month than the previous 5 combined.

Trust me it is not the only time. The day after Thanksgiving I clean house on the Fresh Turkeys they usually have on sale. Since they can`t freeze the turkeys that are marked Fresh they mark them down and I grab 5 or 6 turkeys. I love making smoked turkey sandwiches with pig candy on it (Bacon with Maple syrup and Brown sugar and Cayenne pepper then smoked)

You can take 3 pieces of plywood, even 4, and cut them to just above the height of your smoker/grill, put hinges to connect each segmental the other, and then use that to block wind & rain somewhat.

I use an old cut down refrigerator box to block wind. I believe the increase in fuel is more due to outside temp. For instance, smoking brisket overnight when the temp is 20degF.

Propane? TF kind of grilling is that? I grill all year, and I just got a smoker that I expect I'll use all year (I"m going to do my Thanksgiving turkey). But I'm a charcoal guy.

All year 'round here. We pretty much wore out a Traeger in 8 years. It's beginning to resemble an East coast car from the 70's. Funny thing is, I don't use heavy salt in any of my rubs. I'm thinking it might be from the condensation from the heat up to cool down in humid winter weather. We have very nice patio cover that's about 22'x18'. Plenty of room for keeping things dry year round. As a matter of fact, during my annual December work sabbatical this last year, I smoked 2 turkeys, 35 lbs of pork butt, 12 racks of ribs and 6 whole chickens. All portioned out, vac sealed and freezer stocked. Great for easy and quick dinners. Plus I usually give a bunch away to my kids and other family through the winter. I just drove to Oregon last week to pick up the replacement for the retired traeger. That's the closest dealer for Yoder smokers. Not cheap by any means, but it should last long enough to be passed on to a deserving son :thumbsup2: . First cook on it was a handful of prime tenderloins, they were perfect. Love the grill grates.

Sometime in January, I moved my grill from my uncovered deck where I grilled maybe once a month year round to the SO's place. She has a covered deck. I've been grilling every weekend, rain, snow or shine since then. next up is a smoker.

I grill & smoke year-round. I actually like the cooler weather for cold-smoking cheeses. For my grilling I have natural gas piped to the deck and don't mind a bit of rain when I'm grillin.
