^ Oh, nice deal.

You know, between Chef'Store and the holiday rib roast sale at Fred Meyer, I eat a lot of select grade ribeyes. I don't doubt that they aren't as good as Choice or Prime . . . but man, they are still damned good, no complaints from me!

If you're eating a thick ribeye for $5/lb, you're doing well. thumbsup

I’m starting to think these big cuts, even in the lower grades, are strangely overlooked and underpriced. Most lean (90%) ground beef I’m seeing is around $5 per lb.

I was thinking about getting a meat grinder to grind up the $4 Costco brisket into ground beef. Have you tried grinding any of these big cuts to make your own ground? I’d assume it’s a heck of a lot cleaner than what normally goes into store bought ground.

I've ground up a brisket before, and eaten it as ground beef.

Yes, it was good. I don't think it's cheaper though, and honestly I can't say that I can really taste a difference.

A brisket is generally thought to be about 30% fat, so you want to compare the meat to the cheapest ground beef at the grocery store. Yes, you could trim off much of the fat to make a leaner cut, but then it's just going to cost you more per pound. If you really want lean ground beef (and you generally shouldn't, haha), buy an eye of round for $4.xx/lb.

Not a grocery deal......

But McLendons special 25-27 --- $10 fill up for 20# tanks!!!
They also have the 'We Pay the Taxes' this weekend too.... so 10% off.
(I don't know if that applies to the propane tho.... you'd think it should)

Might as well add too that Safeway has country style pork ribs for $0.97/# --- I stopped in to check them out and yeah --- I came home with an 8# flat.

Also --- Tyson frozen chicken breast for $0.97/# in a 2.5# package! I forgot to put it on my card and didn't have my fone...... Nice flat breasts that look perfect for breaded chicken or chicken burgers! Thats just easy meals there.

My freezer is filling up again.....

Adding too --- QFC and Feddys has Sweet Baby Rays for a $1 a bottle when you buy five.... time to load up for the summer. So much better deal than the Costco BIG bottles with only one or maybe two choices of flavors --- I find I like to mix them along with other things too.

#metoo

They are bone-in pork butts that have gone through the bandsaw. I’ll be eating pork steaks this weekend!

Yeah - I saw that they had steaks yesterday - when I ran into grab some of the bicolor corn 3/$1 - I was kinda bummed that I got the country style ribs the day before.... But I figured I'm gonna smoke them and then baste and grill them --- I'll be happy with that. The main reason for them was to save the last brick of pulled pork for later until whole butts are on sale.

I've never tried the Kinders..... is it any good? I always tend towards the Stubbs when its on sale for that price myself. And the buck a bottle SBR just makes good cheap glazing sauce --- I have no complaints with it! I've got some cherries in the freezer that are going to be chopped up and added to some for those country style ribs..... that makes it really noice!

If you lived closer I'd say come over and have a cupful to try yourself.

I will describe it as milder and a little thinner than SBR's.

I picked up 5 of each. I will go through them both this summer.
